Climate Action through Collaboration

Sol3Carbon is a science based, women owned, small business providing professional environmental consulting to government, landowners, and industry since 2023. Sol3Carbon provides a range of scientific ecological services, specializing in research and monitoring of plant and soil health and carbon at local, landscape, and regional scales.

‘Sol3’ is a reference to the Earth, the 3rd planet from the sun, the star ‘Sol’. The Earth is the only planet in our solar system that has the right conditions for humans and organisms to live. Unfortunately, human activities such as burning fossil fuels and land use change has dramatically altered the global carbon cycle, resulting in significant changes in our Earth’s climate. As a result, conditions on Earth are no longer suitable for many organisms including humans.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. We already have the tools and means to fight climate change. The most important thing we need to do is to stop burning fossil fuels, which is the biggest contributor to increasing greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere which cause climate warming. However, we can also remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through restoring degraded forests, grasslands, and agriculture lands. Restoration of degraded lands is considered a “Nature Based Solution”, low cost, low technology strategies that help reduce the impact of climate change by removing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Here at Sol3Carbon we believe that through thoughtful and meaningful collaboration with government agencies, landowners, tribal agencies, industry, and policy makers we can take action to mitigate climate change, reduce biodiversity loss, and provide clean water and air to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. We focus on a nature-based solution approach to climate change mitigation.

Nature based solutions are conservation, restoration, and other land management practices that can increase carbon storage and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions contributing up to 37% of the carbon dioxide mitigation needed by 2030 (Griscom et al. 2017). In terrestrial ecosystems, carbon is naturally removed from the atmosphere by plants during photosynthesis, but it primarily stays in the biosphere through incorporation of that carbon into the soil. Soils store 75% of the world’s carbon, far exceeding the amount of carbon stored in the atmosphere. However, most soil has been heavily impacted by human activities and susceptible to degradation. If properly managed, soil restoration of degraded lands has the potential to sequester carbon aiding in climate mitigation.

Our
Services

    Consulting

We provide consulting services focused on advising best practices, based on the best available science, for land management to sequester soil carbon, increase biodiversity, and build resilience to climate change.

  • Outdoor Spaces icon

    Research and Monitoring

We offer a variety of services to monitor plant composition and diversity, and soil health properties including soil carbon storage.

We will design and implement research projects that help to establish best practices for restoration and land management that improves diversity, soil health, and soil carbon storage.

    Carbon Accounting

We provide baseline measurements of plant and soil carbon storage. This data can be used to inform and engage in a carbon offset program.

  • Green Building icon

    Analytical Services

We offer a suite of plant and soil analytical services including carbon and nitrogen analyses and soil health properties (e.g., pH, organic matter, moisture).
